Field note

Chitwan, Nepal

6 minute read

Two wheels through the Terai

An unhurried ride through Chitwan’s sal forests, Tharu villages, roadside chiya stops, and monsoon-green fields.

The Terai asks for a different rhythm. The air is heavier, the roads run long and level, and the horizon opens between rice fields bright from the last monsoon shower.

On a motorbike, Chitwan arrives in details: sal leaves shining with rain, mud-and-thatch Tharu homes, bicycles loaded for market, and sweet chiya poured beneath a broad pipal tree.

This was not a ride toward a single landmark. It was a collection of ordinary Nepali moments, from a roadside plate of dal bhat to the smell of wet earth before another shower.
